Local provider of business enterprise solutions Siveco Romania targets a growth of 10-12% in 2009, to 94 million US dollars (some 73 million euros); the company maintained its 20% growth estimate for this year unchanged.
“For 2009, we seek an advance comparable to the growth of the local industry. Nobody can stay sheltered from global turbulence, that’s for sure. Based on data available so far, we estimate that against the backdrop of recession, the global IT market will grow next year by some 4%, whereas in Romania the advance will probably stand somewhere between 10 and 12%.
In absolute terms, the current value of the global IT market is very high due to the steady, even explosive growth over the last ten years. The Romanian market is growing mature, which turns the use of IT instruments into a stringent need,” Siveco Romania CEO Irina Socol told Business Standard.
In Socol’s opinion, the local IT market might get a boost from the economic crisis, because the companies will direct their budgets towards IT investments. “In the current context of global confusion, investments will be selectively and smartly directed towards areas that are vital for development and IT is such a activity to help overcome bottlenecks,” said Socol.
She added that the company’s plans are reviewed periodically in correlation with local and international developments and based on quarterly and six-month results.
In another prediction for next year, Irina Socol said that the wage rise in the local IT industry would flatten a bit.
As for Siveco, its performance assessment criteria will stay unchanged, added Socol. The company will further invest in training and solution development and will further pursue a working strategy based on external projects.
Siveco intends to increase next year its personnel from the current 850 staff, in pace with the expansion of its projects.
According to the cited paper, Siveco’s strategy envisages the development of those projects and business lines that incorporate in-house expertise and export know-how to emerging markets, South-Eastern Europe, North Africa and the former Soviet countries.
In 2007 Siveco began the computerization of Bulgaria’s National Health Care Office and initiated e-learning projects in Kuwait, Lebanon, Moldova and the United Arab Emirates.
At the 14th edition of the International Computer-assisted Instruction and Education Conference “Online Educa Berlin” (Dec. 3-5) Siveco was present with the project “The Romanian Computerized Education System.”
“I believe that in Romania we can speak about the existence of a consistent vision as far as eLearning is concerned, and Romania has definitely a say in establishing the trends in this activity,” said Radu Jugureanu, AeL eContent Department Manager.
AeL interactive lessons, which are available in all Romanian schools, were designated the “World’s best educational content” at the World Summit for Information Society, in a competition that gathered projects from 168 countries.
At the end of 2007 Siveco Romania netted some 70 million dollars from the sale of IT services, software licensing and maintenance services.
