A factory to make extruded profiles for plane fuselage is being built in Dumbravita village, 15 km away from Baia Mare (north-west). The investment of 30 million dollars is being made by US company Universal Alloy Corporation, which also has two factories in the USA and one in Switzerland.
Universal Alloy Corporation started in 2005 to seek a location in Romania, at Timisoara (west), Cluj (centre), Arad (west) or Satu-Mare (north-west), but finally opted for Dumbravita.
At present, the investment is 75% complete, Dragos Ungurean, the firm’s official told Evenimentul zilei daily. Dragos Ungurean said the future employees would be trained by American specialists and there is a contract with Airbus. “By 1 April 2009 we will be able to make the first materials to test them. An Airbus team will come to verify everything. In a first phase there will be 150 employees and after the opening of a new section the number of employees will reach 220,“ he said.
According to Ungurean, the firm intends to produce 2,000 tonnes of finished profiles annually.
“The factory has a future, since we have a firm contract for 2009-2013 with Airbus and with other beneficiaries The Dumbravita locals consider the factory will bring to the local budgets considerable sums from income, profit and building taxes. “Another advantage is the fact some 200 people will be hired,” the village’s mayor Felician Ciceu told the quoted daily.
