Basescu: Immunity of elected politicians must be rethought

14 ianuarie 2009

Information in English

Romanian President Traian Basescu on Wednesday (Jan 14) stated at the Cotroceni Palace, on the occasion of the Presidential Commission presenting the analysis report on the political and constitutional regime, that the immunity of the elected politicians must be re-thought, with crimes to be eliminated.
He argued this by saying "Romania is no longer a state ruled by the police."

The Romanian head of state added there is need of a restructuring in the administration in Romania, as "there is need we leave behind an administrative system which is 40-years old." In the President's opinion, Romania will be better if divided in no more than 9-12 counties or regions, with a balanced and sustainable development of the territory to be achieved more easily.
Basescu pleaded thus for "a redrawing of the administrative division."
