Loading ...Romania was well represented this year at the 59th edition of the Berlin International Film Festival also called Berlinale, which took place over February 5-15. Even if the two Romanian short films „Bric-Brac” directed by Gabriel Achim and „Renovare” (Restoration) directed by Paul Negoescu were selected outside the competition at Berlinale Shorts, missing therefore the chance ever since the beginning to winning an award, however, things stayed differently as regards long-featured films, the Romanian Cultural Institute „Titu Maiorescu” from Germany's capital informs in a news release carried on Monday.
The film called „Cea mai frumoasa fata” (The most beautiful girl) directed by Radu Jude gathered plenty of spectators at every screening of the film. Even if the film was selected only within Berlinale Forum, director Radu Jude went home with the CICAE (Confederation Internationale des Cinemas d'Art et d'Essai Europeens) Award. The first Romanian co-production ever selected at the official competition in Berlin „Katalin Varga” was awarded the Silver Bear for the best sound design. Unfortunately, this was the sole award which went to Peter Strickland.
Romanian films present in Berlin were celebrated this year at the party of the Romanian film which tool place at Roter Salon. Ethno-rock Band Zdob si Zdub received standing ovations by the Romanian audience and by the foreign audience invited at the reception alike. The Romanian films were presented in Berlin with the support of the Association of Promotion of the Romanian Film, the National Council of Cinematography and the Romanian Cultural Institute „Titu Maiorescu”.
