20 februarie 2009

Information in English

Romania's interministerial board on European fund management chaired by Prime Minister Emil Boc and Deputy Prime Minister Dan Nica has convened today in a session at the Government House to look into the latest developments in the finalisation of documentation for the auditing of some sectoral operational programmes and to come up with a calendar for European fund absorption. Boc has repeatedly said that by February 25 the audit documentation for all the sectoral operational programmes have to be completed.

„I have noticed that we are on schedule and I believe that on Tuesday, when we meet again, we can notice that all the documentations that could have been done one year ago, had there been political willingness, are now complete, so that no more obstacle exists,” Boc said on Monday. He called on each ministry and sectoral operational programme manager to come up with a calendar for the absorption of European funds, with clear-cut time limits. Boc also asked that a final version of the draft modifying the legislation in the field of public procurement that will cut through red tape and make access to European grants easier be presented on Tuesday.

Currently, only three out of seven sectoral operational programmes of Romania have been audited by the European Commission. The operational programmes for improved economic competitiveness and the environment were audited early this year, on January 16. Under the former Government, only one sectoral operational programme was audited, namely the one for technical assistance. The remaining four programmes still to be audited regard transportation, the development of administrative capacities and the development of human resources.
