Information in English

The Romanian Identity Party (PIR) of Romanians in Italy calls for the immediate intervention by Italy's President Giorgio Napolitano and PM Silvio Berlusconi to firmly halt the racially-biased media, which is the base for violent events and physical aggressions whose victims are innocent Romanians.

„We are calling on the Italian authorities to get involved in order to defuse tensions generated by the groups of vigilante-style groups, in order to avoid the continuation of revenge of crime by organised public crime,” reads the news release sent by the Romanian Identity Party. The Romanian Identity Party also calls for the perpetrators to be sent to court and judged according to the gravity of the committed crime and not upon the belonging to an ethnic group.

The aforementioned release stresses that that the national secretary of the Romanian Identity Party Mihai Muntean left on Monday for Via Carrocceto, the place where on Sunday evening a group of 20 Italians beat a group of four Romanian nationals. Muntean discussed with the owner of the bar in which the Romanians sheltered and with the journalists present on site, condemning the attack with obvious xenophobic character targeting innocent people. Mihai Muntean also visited the two hospitals Policlinico Casilino and Vannini where the Romanians attacked the day before in Rome have been hospitalised.

On this occasion he found out that they left the hospital on request after having received the emergency treatment. Last week, the Romanian Identity Party of Italy accused the media and politicians of playing down or turning a blind eye upon „the rape” committed by the Italian citizens, but of carrying instead on the first page and commenting live the same type of offence whether perpetrators are immigrants.

At the same time, the representatives of the Romanian Identity Party of Italy notified the National Office Against Racist Discrimination and the Council of Telecommunications with a view to ensuring correct information irrespective of the nationality of the perpetrators, in order to avoid the information instrumentalization and its discriminatory and xenophobic use, targeting the Romanian community in particular and immigrants in general.
