21 februarie 2009

Information in English

Energy Ministers from the EU member states on Thursday agreed in principle to maintain the Nabucco project and the interconnectivity of the Arad-Szeged and Giurgiu-Ruse gas pipelines on the list of the EU priority energy projects. The Romanian Minister of Economy Adriean Videanu made the announcement on Thursday, in Brussels, after the meeting of the EU energy ministers.

He hailed the attitude of his Bulgarian and Hungarian counterparts on the achievement of the interconnectivity projects of Arad-Szeged and Giurgiu-Ruse. The European Commission proposed in January the allotment of 250 million euros to the energy project Nabucco and other 30 million euros to complete the interconnectivity of the gas pipeline Arad-Szeged, with the finances having been suspended in this case for more than 5 years already. This project, that is of the gas pipeline linking Romania to Hungary and making a connection to the European Union's gas network, is of major importance.
