“Hooked” awarded at Mons Film Festival
23 februarie 2009
The „Hooked” fiction film directed by Romanian Adrian Sitaru won the Best Script Award at the 25th edition of the International Love Film Festival in Mons, carried out February 13-20. „This is the first prize won by the script and I am very honoured.
As I am not a professional playwright, this makes me feel more confident, even if this is not a classic live story, the film talks about love and I am very glad this story was appreciated by an international professional jury,” the Romanian director who also signed the script of his film Adrian Sitaru said. Sitaru received the prize from the hands of the most appreciated Romanian actress in the present Anamaria Marinca, who participated in the Festival as a member of the jury.
„The debates were intense ones, especially the one related to „Hooked” or „Picnic” as the film was presented in this this Festival. My colleagues in the jury complained about the ten minutes of dizziness that were the result of how the camera moved in the beginning of the film, but they became very soon fascinated with the story. This was, no doubt about it, the most original and controversial film in the competition.
This is one of those films I would like to see again sometime, which very much surprised us with its ingenuity and simplicity. I was asked many times whether the dialogues were improvised. The actors were wonderful, they really touched us,” actress Anamaria Marinca said. Adrian Sitaru's film told the story of a couple going to have a picnic on a Sunday to solve their marriage problems, but a series of strange and unexpected events turn this idyllic weekend journey into a strange experience.
Playing in the film are actors Adrian Titieni, Ioana Flora and Maria Dinulescu. „Hooked” was awarded two prizes in the November 2008 edition of the Film Festival in Thessaloniki, the Prize of the Jury and the Best Actress, offered ex-aequo to Ioana Flora and Maria Dinulescu. Sitaru's film won also the Prize of the Jury at the 2nd edition of the Estoril Film Festival, as well as the Grand Prize in the New Voices section at the International Film festival in Palm Springs (January 6-19).
„Hooked”, which represents Adrian Sitaru's debut in fiction film, had the premiere in Romania on February 13 and is to compete also in the International Film Festival in Miami on March 6-15.
