24 februarie 2009
Coordination Committee on European Affairs, which met on Monday, February 23, at the headquarters of the Department for European Affairs (DAE), with the meeting having been presided by Minister Vasile Puscas, approached aspects targeting the preparation of Romania's stand to be adopted at the informal European Council, due on March 1.
There will be considered at the meeting as matters such as the struggle against the effects of the international economic crisis, planting and trading genetically modified organisms, preventing natural disasters, transition from the analogical to the digital television or tenders for greenhouse effect gas emissions certificates, reads a DAE release.
With regards to the European Commission's (EC) proposals to modify the financing modalities in the case of projects of climate change management, Vasile Puscas stressed such modifications refer to the option of reducing financing for projects in the field and also cutting the amount allotted to important projects, and also to the possibility of financing other projects of energy infrastructure too.
Puscas showed that Romania would continue to support its undergoing projects. With regards to the planting and trading of the genetically modified organisms, the DAE head showed that Bucharest supports planting, but with the laws to be strictly implemented. The meeting approached also the issue of the schedule for the tenders in which there are to be granted greenhouse effects gas emissions certificates.
Another important aspect for Romania on the agenda of the meeting was the prevention of natural disasters, according to the recent Notification related to the help offered by The EU 27 to third countries.
The approach of the prevention of natural disasters issue has not only a national component, but a European component too, targeting the actions and management of the authorities, with the existing instruments, early warning systems and crossborder cooperation. Participating in the talks were representatives of the ministries, authorities and central public institutions, as well as of the European Affairs structures of the Romanian Parliament.
