Loading ...MEPs Corina Cretu and Daciana Sarbu, of the ruling Social Democratic Party (PSD), on Tuesday sent a letter to Premier Emil Boc emphasizing the necessity to urgently organize a Romanian-Italian joint Government meeting with a view to discussing the situation of the Romanian community in Italy.
"Dear Prime Minister, you have certainly watched the worrying evolution of the situation in Italy and the wave of anti-Romanian messages and actions that have been growing in intensity with every passing day. Some of the most important elements that fuelled this unprecedented tension is represented by certain statements referring to the Romanians that cannot be accepted, which were made by the very members of the Berlusconi Government," reads the letter of the two ladies.
Corina Cretu and Daciana Sarbu appreciated the visit of Romanian Minister of Foreign Affairs Cristian Diaconescu to Rome and also added that their steps as MEPS aimed at the same thing. "We assure you that we shall try, by using all the means at our disposal, to conduct a dialogue with the representatives of the political class but also of the Italian press in order to warn them to make the difference between the Romanians and the offenders …
There are many concrete difficult situations in which some Romanian citizens living in Italy are involved and which make it necessary to reorganize the relation between the two governments," say the signatories of the letter. The document sent to the Premier has an annex, a letter of the Romanians in Italy, which will be made known to all the members of the European Parliament, to EP President Hans-Gert Pottering and President of the European Commission Jose Manuel Durao Barroso.
"On behalf of the Romanians in Italy we are asking you to add your signature in order to show the entire Europe that we are united with the honest and industrious workers in Italy, who are unjustly affected by what is going on these days," reads the letter written by the PSD MEPs.
