Romanian ForMin Cristian Diaconescu pays visit to Moscow

Romanian Minister of Foreign Affairs Cristian Diaconescu is to pay an working visit to Moscow, the agenda including talks with his Russian counterpart Serghei Lavrov on joint interest subjects at bilateral, regional and international relations levels, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MAE) informs in a release. This is a first meeting between the Romanian and Russian foreign ministers after Minister Cristian Diaconescu took over his mandate.
 
"The talks agenda includes issues related to the development of bilateral relations, evolutions in the region and security", Minister Cristian Diaconescu told the press. In Moscow, Chief of Romanian diplomacy is to give a speech on the "Romanian-Russian Relations after the 2007 EU Enlargement" at the Diplomatic Academy of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stressed the release.
 
"A large array of issues will be approached, linked to the stage and prospects of development of the bilateral cooperation in various fields and consolidation of the judicial basis between the two countries", stated Andrei Nesterenko, Russian MAE spokesman, quoted by RIA Novosti. According to Nesterenko, within talks a special attention will be given to the economic and commercial relations, specifically to the commercial deficit in Romania – Russia relation.
 
Russian exports to Romania are in the value of some two billion euros, whereas Romania's to Russia are situated at the level of some 100 million euros. According to governmental statistics, energy imports account for some 90 percent of the total value of imported products from Russia. At the end of 2006, crude oil and oil products accounted for 48.1 percent of the total of energy imports, and natural gas – 39.1 percent.
 
In exchange, Romania exported to Russia auto components – a Renault plant operating in Moscow, with assembly lines for Logan vehicles, based on components delivered by Romania, as well as machines, devices, electrical equipment and spare parts; plastics and textiles; chemical industry products and connected industries products; common metals; furniture; glass and glass articles.
Indirect Russian investments or those of some companies with Russian capital in Romania are of approximately 1.5 billion US dollars, viewed as very small compared to Russia's potential.
 
The most important Romanian industrial fields where Russian investors placed their capital are steel making industry and oil industry. Among representative Russian companies, having invested in Romania, are LukOil, Ruskii Aliuminii (Alor Oradea, west); OMZ (Upet, Targoviste, south), TMK-SINATRA Handel (Artrom Slatina, south); Mecel (COS Tagoviste and Industria sarmei (Campia-Turzii, center); Temerso (Republica SA, Bucharest), Tehnosteel (Tepro Iasi, east).
 
Apart of talks focused on the economic and commercial relations, the two ministers will also approach the Romanian-Russian relations in the field of foreign policy, with special attention to the existing premise for a collaboration as regards the stability consolidation in the Balkans, cooperation development at the Black Sea, as well as cooperation in order to combat international terrorism and organized crime.
Lavrov and Diaconescu will also make an exchange of views about the implementation means of the system of stability and security in Europe, including the June 2008 initiative of Russian President Dmitri Medvedev on the conclusion of an Euro-Atlantic security agreement.
