Foreign Affairs Minister Cristian Diaconescu, Minister of Administration and Interior Dan Nica and Minister of Justice and Civil Freedoms Catalin Predoiu will hold talks on the situation of the Romanians in Italy with the foreign policy commissions in the Senate and Deputies' Chamber on Monday. Chairman of the Senate's foreign policy commission Titus Corlatean told Agerpres the three ministers confirmed they would take part in the talks to be also attended by Romanian members of European Parliament from all the political parties.

Corlatean explained he was awaiting better information of the Parliament by the Executive with respect to the problems faced by the Romanians living abroad, amid the latest Romanian-Italian bilateral contacts. 'Firstly, we are interested in a better information by the Government with respect to the current situation, the content of the latest governmental contacts between Romania and Italy, the moves considered by the Government in order to back the interests of the Romanian citizens living outside Romania's borders.

We are also interested in the concrete manner of the judicial cooperation with the Italian authorities', Corlatean said. He pointed out that Monday's meeting is an unprecedented event, since it will be attended by three ministers and MEPs. 'I think it is an unprecedented meeting. I am interested in coordinating our governmental and parliamentary actions. I also want us to achieve a more coordinated action between the various Romanian representatives in the European Parliament.

In 2007 too there was Italian legislation modified due to our action in the European Parliament. The Italian Government had announced then a decree-law calling for collective expulsion, on the basis of mere decrees issued by the prefects, with no court sentence, with no trial', the commission chairman remarked. Corlatean said there was also need of a more detailed information of Parliament by the Executive about the foreign policy.
