International tour to promote George Enescu Festival

Europe's main capital cities will host in this March the tour promoting the 19th edition of the George Enescu International Festival and Contest in the European musical milieu. The tour's events are aimed at publicizing the prestigious Festival both in the media and the academic musical circles and among impresarios.  
The tour, staged as a first ahead of the George Enescu Festival and supported by the Romanian Cultural Institute (ICR) will go round cities like Brussels, Paris, London, Rome, Vienna and Berlin.
 
Each of the above mentioned cities will play host for a news conference to be attended by the most important officials of the media, travel operators, impresarios and cultural personalities in the country where it happens. A documentary film and a recital by a Romanian instrumentalist winner of the George Enescu International Competition follow the news conference.
 
Thus, violinist Vlad Stanculeasa, winner of the Festival's second prize in 2007 and pianist Claudia Bara are to play in the 1st Flagey Studio, in Brussels on March 9. Violinist Clara Cernat and pianist Thierry Huillet play at the hqs of Romania's Embassy in Paris, on March 10; violinist Remus Azoitei the winner of the 2nd prize of George Enescu International Contest in 1999, and pianist Eduard Stan will perform at the London-based Duke's Hall Royal Academy of Music, on March 13.
 
Also performing in the tour is violinist Ana Tifu the winner of the first place in the George Enescu Competition in 2007 and pianist Giulio Biddau who are to play at the Accademia di Romania, in Rome, on March 20; violinist Alexandru Tomescu, ranking 1st in the Festival in 1990 and pianist Horia Mihail will give a recital at the Viennabased Unicredit Group's main hqs, on March 23; pianist Luiza Borac, the winner of the George Enescu International Competition in 1991, is to perform at Romania's Embassy in Berlin on March 26.
 
The events enjoy the presence of the Festival's honorary director Ioan Holender and of a soloist to vie in the Festival's this year edition. In 2009 the Romanian Cultural Institute (ICR) is the co-producer of the 19th edition of the George Enescu International Festival, along with Romania's Government through the Ministry of Culture, Religious Affairs and National Patrimony (MCCPN), Bucharest City Hall, the Romanian National Radio Broadcasting Corporation and the Television Broadcasting Corporation.
 
The George Enescu International Competitive Festival is Romania's greatest cultural event and its fame has grown from one edition to the other, and in 2007 already the international media highly praised it and saw it as the main rival of the prominent Salzburg Festival The 19th edition of the George Enescu International Competitive Festival is due on August 30- September 26 and it schedules symphonic and chamber music concerts, recitals, opera and ballet performances in the main concert halls of Bucharest city Over 280 works among which 24 Opuses by Enescu, more than 80 works by famous contemporary Romanian composers, ten opera and ballet performances.
 
Thirteen big European orchestras, 14 chamber orchestras from all over the world, 19 chamber bands, 6 choruses 41 soloists in concert and more 6 in recitals will also take part in the event. Martha Argerich, Nelson Freire, Helene Grimaud, Joshua Bell, Renaud Capucon, Maxim Vengerov, Mariss Janssons, Charles Dutoit, Royal Philharmonic, Maggio Musicale, Fiorentino, Concertgebow Orchester are among the artists and orchestras that confirmed their presence in the Festival, this year. The George Enescu International Festival is due on August 30- September 26 and includes piano, violin and composition contests. The jury is made up of eminent Romanian and foreign musicians.
