Two agreements between Romania and Russia on sea transport and the setting up of the Romanian and Russian cultural institutes respectively might be signed during President Traian Basescu's visit to Moscow, the Romanian Foreign Ministry told on Wednesday. 'With respect to the Agreement on sea transport and the Agreement on the setting up and functioning rules of the Romanian and Russian cultural institutes, the talks are at an advanced stage and therefore they are likely to be completed so that the documents may be signed on the occasion of the visit planned by the Romanian president to the Russian Federation', the ministry said.

Another five documents are currently being drafted, namely the Agreement between the governments of Romania and Russia on economic cooperation, the Protocol on amending the agreement on the mutual promotion and protection of investments, the Agreement on technical-military cooperation, the Protocol between the Romanian Ministry of Education, Research and Innovation and the Russian Ministry of Education and Research on cooperation in the education sector during 2008-2012 and the Cooperation Agreement between the Romanian Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Russian Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

Romanian Foreign Minister Cristian Diaconescu paid a visit to Moscow at the end of last week, during which he met with Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov. After the meeting, Diaconescu voiced optimism as regards a possible visit by President Basescu to Moscow this year.
