Industrial fishery to be banned in Danube Delta

6 martie 2009

Information in English

The Romanian Government will endorse, in two or three weeks, an Ordinance banning the industrial fishery in the Danube Delta, Environment Minister Nicolai Nemirschi said in Constanta (Romanian Black Sea port), on Friday. After he initially said he had won the battle for the Danube Delta, rejecting any further details, Nemirschi added he had a pretty clear 'confirmation that the story with the industrial fishing in the Danube Delta will come to an end.'

I asked it and I have a gentlemen agreement with the Agriculture Minister saying that the industrial fishery will be banned in the Reserve, the Environment Ministry stressed. 'The Government will begin outlining the Reserve again, the way it has to be, namely an UNESCO monument, as all the similar ones worldwide are without the locals be affected,' Minister Nemirschi said, adding that 'things go hard there, the County Council leased off land, one cannot built there, croplands were taken out of the agricultural circuit, the Delta is a separate chapter.'
