Information in English

Romanian President Traian Basescu on Monday in a speech to a joint meeting of Parliament said that the Executive and the Parliament majority must carry out consistent reforms in the field of education, in the context of additional funds allotted to this sector.
Basescu mentioned the role of the Presidential Commission for Education in reforming the system.

„In the field of education, irrespective of the length and intensity of the economic crisis , there are favorable premises for better results. There is a strategy drawn up by experts with the commission headed by professor Mircea Miclea (head of the presidential commission for education),” Basescu explained.

He specified that the trade unions agreed to measures aimed to modernize the system, so the education sector got the initially promised financing of 6 percent of the GDP. „The  present parliament majority, the  current Government, have  to immediately initiate profound reforms in the education system, which is the only solution to make it yield results and properly prepare the young people for meeting the needs of the Romanian economy,” Basescu said in a speech held before Parliament.
