Itinerant consulate programme well received in Spain
10 martie 2009
The itinerant consulate programme, staged in different regions of Spain, on a periodical basis , by teams of Romanian diplomats, enjoyed a warm welcome and was appreciated by Romanians living and working in this country, according to Maria Ligor , Romanian Ambassador to Spain, and Vice -Consul of Romania to Madrid Eliza Diaconescu.
„The feedback is generally a positive one, with this representing a necessary experience for us all. Especially in the case of such Romanian communities at a distance from the consulates, this really means something, said Maria Ligor, who also added that best thing it will be „creating a certain predictability of the presence of Romanian diplomats in the various regions of Spain, so that people to know when the team comes, to be thus able to get to the information they need by using this facility instead of traveling to the consulate themselves.”
More precisely, with regards to the locations the team of Romanian diplomats from Madrid is involved in, Vice-Consul Eliza Diaconescu specified that in the case of the Alcala de Henares locality in the Madrid area, „there was already created a certain periodicity, with a routine being meant for Romanians living in this area to know exactly when they can avoid going to Madrid to solve their problems, as Madrid comes to them”.
We go there every first Friday of each month. Following the same pattern, Romanian diplomats are alternatively visiting Ciudad Real (central Spain) and Burgos (northern), in the last but one Friday, and Saturday respectively, of each month.
In the current stage of the programme, each node in the already existing consulate network Madrid, Castellon, Barcelona and Seville, „works in a combination of destinations, wearing the shape of a star, following that the other four consulates too (Bilbao, Zaragoza, Ciudad Real and Almeria), to be opened soon, to follow a similar pattern, so that the Romanian officials to be able to cover the whole country,” said Ligor.
„Moreover, starting on March, the already functioning consulate from Bilbao (northern Spain, the Basque Country) will take over the activity of the diplomats from Madrid, who will take more care instead of the Canary Islands, especially as this is a far location, with people needing more our periodical presence”, said Ambassador Maria Ligor.
Also, the diplomats from Madrid, will take care of the Burgos and Castilla y Leon regions, following that diplomats from Barcelona to pay more attention to the Balears, and the ones from Castellon (eastern Spain) to pay more attention to the Valencia and Alicante provinces.
As soon as it is set on functioning, the consulate from Almeria (southern, in Andalusia) will focus on the Malaga, Granada and Huelva regions, destinations which are currently taken care, alongside with others, by the consulate in Seville.
