Loading ...President Traian Basescu voiced on Monday his trust that the Parliament must become a more active factor, by securing the coherence and stability of the governmental policies, underlining that he is „a partisan of an accentuated pro-active and control stance” of the Parliament.
„My conviction is that the Parliament must become a more active factor in securing the coherence and stability of the governmental policies. My message brings to the attention of the Parliament and of the whole country the need of coherent and urgent actions directed to reform, set to modernize the state, through which the risk of two major crisis could be eliminated. It is about a confidence crisis and a representativity one”, stated the President in front of the two reunited chambers of the Parliament.
He also stressed that just to the extent it will know how to reply to these risks, Romania could become more efficient and more democratic. As well, the President appreciated that Romania is lagging behind a lot compared to the European average. „Romania could not define the specific reforms related to the transition to the market economy and those of its European Union pre -accession.
That is why we could not register a major step towards efficiency and the democratic character of all Romanian state's institutions”, said the head of state.
He also stressed that, by assuming the reforms alone, the current majority will fulfill its constitutional duty to represent the citizen and will prove responsibility towards Romania's immediate and future destiny.

„If the state's reform is not launched and carried out to the very end, then both such a large governmental majority and a government generated by such a majority fail to justify their existence in front of the citizens”, stated the President.He also said that the declaration by the government of an accelerated state reform programme, backed and eventually improved by the Parliament , could be a chance for Romania to exit this period of crisis modernized and stronger.
„The economic crisis is equally a risk and an opportunity. The magic word is the state's reform. All competence, all energies we have, irrespective of the political color , could be reunited under the imperative of responsibility”, appreciated the President, adding that the current coalition must be mainly oriented toward courageous and in-depth structural reforms.
