The  National  Institute  of  Hydrology  and  Water Management has issued a Code Yellow alert on the Danube River on the Gruia -Bechet stretch (the southwestern counties of Mehedinti and Dolj), due to the high flows recorded at the Danube's entry to Romania at Bazias, in the southwest and due to the waters from the hydro-electric plant of Portile de Fier, the Environment Ministry announced on Tuesday.

The Institute specialists stressed they had updated an alert sent on March 8 regarding the high flows of the rivers Crasna, Barcau, Crisul Negru, Crisul Alb, Timis, Barzava, Moravita and the rising flows on the Romanian stretch of the Danube.

Thus, the Code Orange alert is maintained on the lower Barzava (the western Timis county) and a Code Yellow alert   is maintained on the lower Crasna (Satu Mare county in the north), Barcau (Bihor county in the northwest), Crisul Alb and Crisul Negru (Arad county in the west), Timis and Moravita (Timis county).
The alert stays till 4 p.m. on Wednesday, March 11, the ministry said.
