President of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) Thomas Mirow will pay a visit to Romania and Bulgaria next week in order to underscore the EBRD's long-term commitment to the two countries, particularly at a time of volatility of the global economy, the bank said in a press release.
Mirow will visit Bulgaria on March 16-17 for a range of talks with the governmental officials, business groups and the diplomatic community based in Sofia.

The EBRD president will then travel to Bucharest, to meet on March 18-19 a range of representatives of the Romanian Government and of the business community. The EBRD targets in 2009 a significant increase in the volume of its investments in Romania, that amounted to more than 300 million euros in 2008.

The EBRD priorities this year are to back the real economy, by making sure that the banks are able to keep on crediting the small and medium-sized firms, and also the projects on energy efficiency and renewable energies, the release said. EBRD is the biggest institutional investor in Romania with a total 3.8 billion euros in 249 projects. The bank, in cooperation with its numerous partners, has mobilised more than 7.2 billion euros for projects conducted in Romania, the release said.
