Theatres from provinces win most nominations for UNITER Gala Awards

Radu Afrim, Laszlo Bocsardi and Gabor Tompa have been nominated for Best Romanian Director at this year's edition of the UNITER Awards Gala staged by the Romanian Theatre Union at the Bucharest National Theater Hall on April 13.
 
The shows staged by the three directors, that have won them the UNITER nomination, also compete for the Best Show Award; they are – „Omul Perna” (The Pillow Man) directed by Radu Afrim, a show staged by Maria Filotti Theatre Company  from Braila , „Ivona , principesa Burgundiei” (Yvonne, the Princess of Burgundy) directed by Laszlo Bocsardi, a production of Tamasi Aron Theatre Company from Sfantu Gheorghe and „Three Sisters” directed by Gabor Tompa , a production of the Hungarian Theatre from Cluj-Napoca.
 
The nominees for Best Stage Design include Jozsef Bartha for the design of „Yvonne, the Princess of Burgundy”, Andrei Both for „Three Sisters” and Velica Panduru for „Boala familei M” (The Disease of the Ms), a production of Mihai Eminescu National Theatre from Timisoara.
Laszlo  Matray  (playing  Prince  Filip  in  „Yvonne,  the  Princess  of  Burgundy”),  Victor Rebengiuc (Willy Loman in „Death of a Salesman” staged by Bulandra Theatre from Bucharest) and Zsolt Bogdan (Vershinin from „Three Sisters”) have won the nomination for Best Actor.
 
The nominees for Best Actress are Dorina Chiriac (Ioana in „Ioana si focul” staged at the Comedy Theatre   from Bucharest), Imola Kezdi (Masha in „Three Sisters”) and Mariana Mihut (Lear in „Lear”).
Competing for the Radio Theatre Award are three productions of the Romanian Broadcasting Corporation   – „Ionesco, cinci piese scurte” (Ionesco, Five Short Plays) by Eugen Ionesco, directed by Alexandru Dabija, „Planeta mediocrilor” (Planet of the Mediocre”) by Ioan Grosan, directed by Attila Vizauer  and „Ucigas  fara  simbrie”  (Killer  without Pay)  by Eugen Ionesco, directed by Lucian Giurchescu.
 
At the 17th edition of the UNITER Gala there will also be awarded the prize to the winner of the Playwriting Contest  for the best Romanian play of the year.
UNITER Gala Awards was initiated in 1991; it is an annual event staged by the Romanian Theatre Union to reward the Romanian theatre artists and the most worthy theatre creations of the previous year.
