Nobel Prize Laureate in Economic Sciences Joseph Stiglitz will present for the first time in Romania, the global economic outlooks in the context of the financial crisis. Stiglitz was invited at the 6th edition of the South-East European Financial Forum that will unfold over May 19-22 in Bucharest, said Forum Invest, the organiser of the event.
For Stiglitz, the current moment of the crisis is an opportunity to redesign the world economic path. 'It is time for a new Bretton Woods! It is the time for dramatic reforms within the existing institutions and the establishment of new economic bodies. Generating new platforms of talks at present is vital. The key information has to be sent in adequate time in order to curb the domino effect of the crisis. The answer relies in the cooperation between countries,' said Stiglitz.
Over 300 participants from the region, governors, vice -governors, ministers, managers of financial-banking institutions , managers of companies might have a direct dialogue with Joseph Stiglitz and with Governor of the National Bank of Romania (BNR), Mugur Isarescu at the SouthEast-European Financial Forum. 'The debates within the Financial Forum will provide the opportunity to identify the bets ways of solving regional problems current and future,' said Mugur Isarescu.
In the recently published surveys, Joseph Stiglitz said that we are facing a global problem which requires the participation of all the states, not only of 20 countries. Joseph Stiglitz is an American economist and a professor at Columbia University. He is a recipient of the John Bates Clark Medal (1979) and the Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences (2001).
The Financial Forum reached its 6th edition and is organised with the special support of the National Bank of Romania (BNR) under the high patronage of Romania's Parliament and in cooperation with the Royal House and the Association of Romanian Businesspeople.
