13 martie 2009

Information in English

President Traian Basescu said on Thursday he  had suggested the leaders of the two parties making up the ruling coalition – the Social Democrat Party (PSD) and Democrat Liberal Party (PD-L)  – Mircea Geoana and Emil Boc respectively 'to find solutions so that the approaches of the two parties may be correlated and made in the correct direction'.

'Romania needs an element of financial security in concluding the financing agreement with the European Union and the International Monetary Fund. (…) This agreement – a safety net for Romanians – may be for a year or two', Basescu said.

He announced that on the sidelines of the meeting of the Romanian Supreme Defence Council (CSAT) held at the Cotroceni Palace (the president's offices) he had discussed with the PSD and PD-L leaders the latest information relating the deterioration of the global economy and they tried to anticipate its effects on Romania.

'It will certainly influence the Romanian economy. (…) We'll have the final evaluation (of the IMF – editor's note) by Tuesday or Wednesday and, depending on it , we shall be able to draw a conclusion, namely whether we need an agreement for one year or two', Basescu said.
