MEP Adriana Ticau, of the Social Democratic Party, vice-chairperson of the Committee on Transport and Tourism with the European Parliament (TRAN), on Wednesday participated in a meeting of the coordinators in the field, with the European Transport Commissioner  Antonio Tajani having been invited too.  The  Romanian MEP  and the  European Commissioner discussed on this occasion the linking of Romania to the trans-European transport networks  (TEN-T), especially in the context of the annual programme TEN -T  2009 demand for proposals, reads a press release.

The Romanian MEP wanted to know the stand of the European Commissioner on the demand for proposals under the TEN-T 2009 programme and also on the midterm budget exercise revision of the priority projects in obtaining European financing.

She also underlined the special interest Romania took in having a high-speed railway to link Bucharest to Western Europe, to develop several maritime corridors on the Black Sea and to interconnect its transport infrastructure to the neighbouring states, especially to the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine. Commissioner Tajani showed special interest in the matter, also inviting the TRAN vice chairperson to discuss in detail the development of the transport infrastructure in Romania.

'Commissioner Tajani has confirmed today that the TEN -T tender for projects in 2009 is going to be launched in late March, to be worth 500 million euros. There will be two months offered for the submission of the projects. The framework for such projects was already created in Brussels and we benefit by all the support we need, from this viewpoint. What is important now is what we will propose as Romanians to develop our country,' MEP Adriana Ticau said.
