The Supreme Council of Magistrates (CSM) is going to be the host over May 27-29, in Bucharest, of the 7th General Assembly of European Network of Councils of Justice (ENCJ).
The main topic to be approached on this occasion will be 'Transparency and Access to Justice.'
CSM invited Romanian officials, as well as representatives of all members of the European Network of Councils of Justice and observers in the network, representatives of the European Commission, the European Parliament and the Consultative Council of European Judges.
CSM has been a member of the European Network of Councils of Justice since January 1, 2007, previously it had been an observer. CSM is now an active participant in the activities of the network's working groups, being member in all the 6 groups. The European Network of Councils of Justice was set up in Rome, on May 20, 2004, when the ENCJ charter was adopted, with its objective being maintaining and developing the European Union as an area of freedom, security and justice.
The ENCJ became a non-profit association in 2008, having legal personality, with its permanent headquarters in Brussels and its own managing bodies. It now has 17 members and 12 observers. The network was meant to ameliorate cooperation and good understanding between councils of justice and members of the legal systems in the EU member states and also in such states that are candidates for becoming members of the European Union.
Members of the body can be any national institution in the EU member states that are independent from the Government and Parliament or that are autonomous and hold the ultimate responsibility in supporting the legal system and ensuring an independent justice.
