Corina Cretu, member of the European Parliament (EP), drew attention upon the importance of a coordination of the anti-crisis measures between the European institutions and the national authorities and insisted over the need of a Romanian plan being urgently outlined, focused on finding solutions to specific problems the country is confronted with following the economic recession globally.
The appeal made by European MP Corina Cretu comes as a conclusion at the end of debates around the European economic re-launch plan, held in Brussels, this week, under the aegis of the European Economic and Social Committee.
„Economic reality at this year-start demonstrates that the proportion of this crisis was underestimated, as can be seen by comparing the economic growth forecasts. If in November last year a minimum growth in the euro zone was estimated at 0.1 percent for 2009, intermediary outlook at this year-start indicated a minus two percent from the initial figure”, said the European MP.
She appreciated as welcome this debate with representatives of the economic and social councils from the member states, aimed at evaluating more precisely the impact of the crisis at national level and the domestic implications of the implementation of the European economic relaunch plan.
„European citizens already started to bear the brunt of the social costs of this crisis and the authorities from the 27 member states and of the European institutions must adopt measures focused on avoiding a reduction of the buying power and of the standard of living, as well as the loss of jobs”, explained the Euro MP.
Corina Cretu appreciated as necessary that Romania proves a coherent vision on the anticrisis measures at national level. „I think we should not forget the World Bank recommendation on the setting up of a Committee of National Economic Policy, to include representatives of the Executive, Parliament, National Bank and the civil society.
As well, a careful evaluation of the opportunity, conditions and dimensions of a foreign loan is needed under the aegis of the International Monetary Fund, and a consensus between the parliamentary political forces must be reached to this end”, concluded Corina Cretu.
The conference moderated by the president of the European Social and Economic Committee, Mario Sepi, reunited in Brussels members of the European Commission, headed by president Jose Manuel Barroso and representatives of the social and economic councils from the EU member states, of trade and employers' unions, as well as of the European Union Czech Presidency.
