Information in English

Social Democrat Euro-deputy Corina Cretu, member of the leading team of the   Parliamentary Network on the World Bank (PNoWB), took part this week, in Brussels, in a series of meetings with WB executive directors for Europe focused on "European coordination at the World Bank and cooperation with European institutions", a press release informs on Thursday.

These meetings were aimed among others to explore concrete ways and zones of cooperation between the European Union (EU) and the World Bank (WB), as well as of the strategies of the new EU member states as for their representation within WB.

In  the  Euro-deputy  opinion,  it  is  important  that  Romania's  Government  takes  into consideration the recommendations made by WB on the creation of an independent body to overlook the exit from this crisis.
"European Commission's contributions to the World Bank and the European Investments Bank rose substantially in the past years, up to 650 million euros.

As an EU member state and, therefore, as a fund provider, Romania has a word in the decision process on the use and distribution of this money. Unfortunately, Romania suffers of a deficit of representation in WB structures exactly in the period when the economic crisis  imposes an increasingly strong cooperation between our country and the world financial institutions", stated Corina Cretu.

According  to  her,  "it  is  important  that  Romania's  Government  takes  into  account  the recommendations made by WB on the setting up of an independent body to tackle the exit from this crisis , formed of representatives of the Executive, Parliament, National Bank and of civil society.

Romania is part of the countries to benefit in the upcoming two years of a programme in the value of 25 billion euros. In order to value this support a close coordination is needed domestically, as well as a stable cooperation and dialogue between the partners in the decision-taking process".
