Loading ...President Traian Basescu said on Friday in Brussels , at the end of the works of the European Council which discussed economic and financial issues, that Romania has achieved its goals.
'As far as we are concerned, we have achieved our goals. Funding was provided for the Nabucco project, which was declared a priority energy project. Also the EU will be funding the gas interconnection between Romania and Hungary,' Basescu told a news conference.

He added that European funds will also be provided for interconnecting the natural gas transmission systems of Romania and Bulgaria, but Romania is also interested in a similar interconnection between Hungary and the Czech Republic, because this way the German gas system will gain access to interconnection all the way to Romania and Bulgaria.
The President showed that the gas pumping stations integrated in a programme exclusively sponsored by the European Union is also of interest to Romania.Basescu mentioned that these are just some overall aspects, and the objectives achieved by Romania and their effects will be detailed in a press conference in Bucharest.
'It is essential that all the measures have been taken so that what happened this winter, when the lack of a regional or Europe -wide connection was badly felt, will never happen again,' the President said. He added that he wants the countries rich in resources to be able to help those facing difficulties in case the incidents of this winter occur again.
Basescu pointed out that there is a global programme sponsored by the European Union worth almost 5 billion euros for a broadband Internet project and a system for interconnecting the national gas transmission system of the EU member states. He said the money will be coming from the EU in the shape of not spent money carried over from the programmes of the previous years that should have been disbursed to the donating countries.
