At the end of a conversation on Monday in Vienna with Austrian President Heinz Fischer, Romania's President Traian Basescu said that their conversation focused among other things on the state of affairs in Serbia and Moldova in the context of their rapprochement to the European Union.
"We reached a common conclusion about Serbia, namely that this country has to be extended a European prospect and, at least as far as Romania is concerned, Serbia needs and has the right to aspire to an association agreement with the European Union," said Basescu.

He mentioned that also discussed was the situation in Moldova and that he showed the situation there is not a mere political issue to Romania, but also one that refers to Romania's own history."We are two countries with people speaking the same language and sharing a common culture, and Romania is an unreserved supporter of the EU reaching out to the Republic of Moldova," the President said.

Part of the ongoing official visit to Austria of President Basescu are also meetings with Austrian Federal Chancellor Werner Fayman, Vienna Mayor and Governor Michael Haupl, Austrian business executives and officials of the Romanian community of Austria.Accompanying the President are Foreign Minister Cristian Diaconescu, Tourism Minister Elena Udrea, Economy Minister Adriean Videanu and Governor of the National Bank of Romania (BNR) Mugur Isarescu.
