Euro-deputy Corina Cretu, of the Social Democratic Party, on Wednesday submitted a written declaration to go with the plenary meeting of the European Parliament debating the Millan Mon report on "the situation of the transatlantic relations after the elections in the United States."

Cretu, who is a member of the delegation of the European Parliament for the relations with the American Congress, emphasized the importance of lifting the compulsory US visa requirements for all the European Union citizens with a view to ensuring a nondiscriminatory regime that might consolidate the transatlantic partnership, reads a press release the Romanian Social Democratic delegation to the European Parliament issued on Thursday.

The Romanian europarliamentary  said that the election of President Barack Obama might be the beginning of a new age in the relations between the United States of America and the European Union on condition that both sides should pass from the good intentions and friendly dec larations to more concrete steps meant to tighten relations and make cooperation more efficient.

"The economic crisis and the current geo-strategic context make imperative a more marked concern with the improvement of the transatlantic cooperation as we are facing serious common challenges.
The US and the EU are linked by a partnership that is fundamental for both sides, which covers all the fields of activity, from trade exchanges to the military alliance," reads the written declaration.
In Corina Cretu's opinion "it is imperiously necessary to eliminate the last discriminations existing in the US-EU relations.

The fact that the US entry visas are still compulsory for the citizens of 6 EU member states must be a priority of the dialogue conducted by the European Commission and the European Parliament with the US authorities in order to come to an equal treatment to all the citizens in the EU member states on the basis of full reciprocity.
In this respect I am hailing the inclusion in this report of the request made to the US with a view to lifting the visa requirements for the United States, which have not yet been included in the visa waiver program."

Doamne ajuta!
