Cosmote Romania closed the year 2008 on a 23-percent market share and a customer base of nearly 5.9 million, up 63 percent from 2007, reads a Cosmote press release.
The 2008 results, says Cosmote Romania CEO Stefanos Theocharopoulos, recommends Cosmote as a solid developing player that managed to triple its market share since 2006. This , he adds, reconfirms Cosmote as the most dynamic mobile communications operator in Romania, for the second consecutive year.
Three years into business on a highly competitive market, where the penetration rate was nearly 130 percent in 2008, Cosmote Romania reported revenues f 311 million euros and earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortisation (EBIDTA) of 22.5 million euros.
Theocharopoulos says in 2009 Cosmote will focus on expanding its subscriber base and reaching out for excellence in its interaction with customers. Innovation, he says, is Cosmote's creed, and consequently 2009 will see a continuation in innovation on all the business segments of Cosmote – prepaid, postpaid and corporate services.
The 2008 financial performance of the company are the result of relevant , competitive and quality offers and services, the Cosmote CEO explains. The company's revenues were up in 2008 compared with the year before, and the positive EBIDTA of 22.5 million euros means Cosmote has achieved its main financial target for 2008.
The 2008 EBIDTA was up 157 percent from a negative 2007 EBIDTA of 39.2 million euros. Cosmote Romania is a leader in new customer acquisitions, with more then 2.2 million new users in 2008, up 44 percent from 2007, when the company reported a 44-percent expansion in its customer base year on year.
In 2008, Cosmote gained more then 470,000 new subscribers, bringing the total up to more than 1.1 million. On the segment of prepaid services, Cosmote's dominant position was maintained by and increase of over 1.89 million users, to 4.78 million.
