Romania's President Traian Basescu on Friday voiced hope that the score of Saturday's world cup qualifier between Romania and Serbia will be favouring Romania.
Basescu made the statement at a joint news conference with his Serbian counterpart Boris Tadic, as the two heads of state are to watch together the match in Constanta.
'I have never wanted to make my friend Boris Tadic feel bad, but I would like him to leave the stadium tomorrow evening a sad person and I a happy one. Will it be so? I hope, although I do not venture any score, I hope the match will end 1-0, 2-1, 3-2 or 4-3 for Romania.
One more goal for Romania. The more goals, the more spectacular,' said Basescu.President Tadic said in his turn that he never ventures prognostication for football games, but he wants the footballers of Serbia to do all they can to win.
'If Serbia wins, it will be as good as qualified for the finals. And that means very much,' said Tadic. He added that what worries him most is that the game is played on a stadium on which Romania has not lost so far. Yet, he added, traditions exist to be sometimes broken.
'Tomorrow is the day for the Romania v. Serbia fixture. That might be the only unsolved problem between the two countries,' said Tadic.
'This time on Sunday this problem will have been solved for long,' Basescu replied with a laugh.
President Tadic is currently paying a two-day visit to Romania.
