Romania is following at a great distance such countries in its region as Hungary, ranking 7th, Slovenia, ranking 9th, Slovakia, 10th, the Czech Republic , 19th and Poland 25th. The reasons taking Romania on such a bad position in the ranking were the lack of financial motivation to support well informed options, as well lack of information and involvement of the patients in taking decisions.
What than should be such measures to improve situation in Romania at this chapter? First of all: information. 'Alphabetizing' the patients to become aware of their rights is essential; other necessary measures that should be taken so that the patients to become more active in the health care system.
The report also showed Romanian patients need such information to be easy to understand about the health care system. information should be provided online or on the phone 24 hours a day, as well as catalogues should be available with the doctors. Of the same importance it would be also a catalogue with rankings depending on quality, so as to facilitate the choosing of doctors and hospitals.
Such measures would help the process of making patients into more active in the health care system, which is essential for good results, consider the authors of the report. The ranking groups 18 indicators in 4 categories: Patients' rights, Information, Evaluation of technologies in the health care system and Financial motivations. Each category is granted a coefficient of importance, with a maximum possible score to result in the end of 1,000 points.
