Romania's Ministry of Environment signed on Monday an understanding with the Government of Jordan in the environment protection and steady development field.
Romanian Minister of Environment Nicolae Nemirschi and Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Suhair Al-Ali have signed this Memorandum.
The cooperation agreement refers to fields as horizontal legislation - development and implementation of mechanisms and instruments of evaluation of the environment (impact evaluation upon the environment globally, regionally and nationally, environmental audit, strategic environment evaluation and environment management system), nature protection – exchange of information and cooperation in the field of planning and management of protected areas, air quality, marine environment and management of coastal resources, management of solid waste, including of dangerous waste, as well as management of dangerous chemical substances.
At the same time, through this understanding, pollution control and reduction is also aimed at, as well as cooperation in the framework of The Clean Development Mechanism (CDM). As well, the two countries announced they will organize conferences, exhibitions, symposia on environmental topics and activities related to the backing of international projects in view to find solutions to environment issues at the global, regional and national levels.
The event organized at Cotroceni Presidential Palace, in the presence of President Traian Basescu, is an item on the visit's agenda paid by a Jordanian delegation to Romania, headed by King Abdullah II, the King of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan.
