Loading ...The decision by Chisinau authorities to declare Romania's Ambassador to the Republic of Moldova persona non grata represents a hostile stand against our country, which lacks political motivation and does not serve the settlement of their political issues, stated on Wednesday former head of the Romanian state Ion Iliescu.
"The state's (Moldovan – editor's note) political leadership must demonstrate receptiveness, must be open to what happens in society and avoid worsening things by adopting such hostile attitudes against the population because, by blaming the others – external factor, they do nothing but reveal the lack of openness, of receptiveness, of grasping own problems and, at the same time, the lack of desire to seek democratic solutions to solve their problems", underlined the former head of the Romanian state.
Asked if a reaction of Bucharest is needed, Ion Iliescu thinks that, most likely, the answer is YES because "Romania has to reject these accusations as unfounded".
Referring to the statement made by Moldovan President Vladimir Voronin, according to which Romania would have fomented the revolts in Chisinau, the Honorary president of the Social Democratic Party (PSD, at rule) thinks this is "a habitual propaganda scheme, reflecting a certain mentality".
"There are issues pertaining to people's perception in the Republic of Moldova their leaders fail to understand and that is why they put the blame on others", underscored Romania's former president.
