Meeting Bogdan Aurescu – Raymond Benjamin

State secretary for strategic business Bogdan Aurescu on Tuesday  met  with  secretary  general of  the  International Civil Aviation  Organization (ICAO) Raymond Benjamin, reads a release of the Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MAE).
 
The two officials discussed about the ways to continue Romania's cooperation with ICAO, mainly within the mandate which is unfolding at present in the organization's Council, in capacity of representative of the Central European Rotation Group at the ICAO Council.
 
The Rotation Group is made up of Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, the Czech Republic and Hungary. According to the Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Romanian side reaffirmed its objectives and main approaches on cooperation in the field of international civil aviation, including as regards the promotion of Romanian experts to the ICAO, goals which MAE promotes multilaterally, as well as at the level of bilateral and regional cooperation.
 
Raymond Benjamin for his part thanked Romania for the active support of his candidacy at the post of secretary general of the International Civil Aviation Organization for diplomatic steps and in civil aviation. He reiterated the appreciation for Romania's contribution to the  organization's activity and the outstanding image, which Romania gained within ICAO.
Raymond Benjamin is on visit to Romania in the context of the participation at the first highlevel meeting in the field of safety in the internal civil aviation, which Romania hosted on April 6 in Bucharest.
 
At present Romania is unfolding concurrently 5 mandates in the interventional civil aviation: member in the ICAO Council, vice -president in the Air Transport Committee of ICAO, vice -president of Multidisciplinary Group of ICAO, member in the Coordination Committee of the European Civil Aviation Conference and vice-president in the Provisional Council of the European Organization for the Safety of Air Navigation.
 
Romania holds until June 2009 the EU presidency of the ICAO, in the name of the Czech Republic after holding the EU presidency of ICAO over January-June 2008 in the name of Slovenia.
