The Romanians living in Spain will have the chance to vote in the elections for the European Parliament on June 7, but only 46,000 of them have so far enlisted with the electoral registry, according to official information cited by "Si, se puede!" the integration paper, though over 65,000 Romanians with the right to vote are living here.
The enlisting with the electoral registry is only made upon the request of the European citizens, two months before the elections and less than three weeks until the deadline, which is April 27.Those who are not registered will not be allowed to vote.
According to the Romanian Embassy in Madrid, the Romanian authorities are to organize polling stations at the headquarters of the Romanian diplomatic missions in Spain, for those who want to vote for the political parties at home.
The Community in Madrid and the office of the immigration council, have organized a series of meetings with Romanians and Bulgarians in collaboration with the European Parliament's Bureau in Madrid, to inform them on the European elections which are "the first to allow Romanians and Bulgarians to vote", immigration and cooperation official Javier Fernandez Lasquetty said, reminding that 34 percent of the Madrid Community's foreigners are community citizens.
At the latest elections in Spain, only 60,000 Romanians registered with the electoral lists , "Si se puede!" reports.
