Prince Radu has announced his candidacy for Romanian president at Elisabeta Palace in the capital late on Thursday (April 9).
"I announce with hope and confidence that I shall candidate to the position of the president of Romania at the elections in November 2009", he said.
Prince Radu explained he would run for the country's top job as an independent, "not linked to any party obligations", which he says is a guarantee of an unaltered exercising of the term.
The prince stressed he does not plan to re-establish monarchy, since "changing the form of ruling in a democracy is not the head of state's power, as it can only be decided by the entire nation".
"I am here, today, to lay a stone at the foundation of respected Romania, one we forgot that we deserve. Good luck to us all", Prince Radu said.
