Loading ...The European Union is going to carry out a correct evaluation of the situation in Chisinau, but without involving Romania in this action, Chairman of the Committee for foreign affairs of the Romanian Senate Social Democrat Titus Corlatean said on Wednesday.
'The institutions of the Romanian state need to become more active from now on within the European family when there comes transmission of information and evaluation Romanians already own on, related to all that has happened in the latest years in Chisinau.
A correct evaluation by Brussels authorities cannot be made without involvement of Romania, with our country owning the most accurate information and also being very much involved in the matter,' Corlatean said, on the occasion of a political statement before the Senate.
According to the PSD senator, Romania 'in her capacity as a European state and as a sister country expects from the politicians in Chisinau to observe the democratic principles. In his opinion, the suspicion related to an eventual fraud at the parliamentary elections in the Republic of Moldova needs to be clarified, including by repeating the scrutiny.
'It is our right as a European state and as a sister country to ask for and expect from the power in Chisinau to observe the democratic standards, including while referring to elections. It is our right to expect what was signaled by the leaders of the opposition in Chisinau, that is serious fraud having influenced the result of the polls to be checked, including by repeating elections,' Titus Corlatean said.
