Loading ...Romania must react to the situation in the Republic of Moldova as an European Union (EU) state member and a member of the North-Atlantic Alliance, Social Democrat Euro MPs leader Adrian Severin told on Wednesday.
"Romania must neither react emotionally and as such to confirm the accusations against us, nor accept as a NATO and EU member state a totally unjustified attitude and humiliating in the end on the part of the Moldovan authorities", underlined Adrian Severin.
Leader of PSD (Social Democratic Party, in the governing coalition) group in the European Parliament said that this situation might be used as a pretext to launch accusations against Romania, according to which it instigates street protesta, respectively destabilizing measures.
"It is not a first when these accusations are made and, now, instead of discussing the reasons which made a considerable number of people to react, a scapegoat is looked for.
At the same time it is clear that attempts to involve Romania in this confrontation on Chisinau streets are made and I hope that Romania will succeed to strike a balance between self-restraint and firmness", underlined Adrian Severin, former Foreign Minister.
Moldovan President Vladimir Voronin blamed Romania on Wednesday for the involvement into protests in the Republic of Moldova and the Romanian Ambassador to Chisinau was declared persona non grata.
