Loading ...The Romanian Press Club (CRP) is extremely worried about the situation in which Romanian journalists currently working in Chisinau are finding themselves in, and is calling on the authorities of Moldova 'to display utmost discernment and act so as the physical integrity of the journalists may be secured and they are not in danger, given that they are carrying out their professional duties,' reads a press release issued by the CRP on Friday.
The CRP says it has presented the situation to the World Association of Newspapers that it deemed 'incompatible with the norms for the carrying out of the journalist trade.''The Romanian Press Club is voicing indignation over the implications on the free information of the decision of the Moldova authorities to introduce visa requirements in their relation with Romania, visas which in fact are not granted.
The Romanian journalists may not enter Moldova now, and that is robbing the Romanian public of information. It is an insufferable attitude on the part of a country that professes its wish for European integration,' reads the release.
The CRP Council of Honour is also urging the Moldova's leaders to understand that the Romanian journalists are working in the interest of the public. 'Blocking access to information is no longer a useful solution for any public purpose,' says the release. The Moldovan Government on Thursday introduced visa requirements for Romanian nationals travelling to Molodva.
Also on Thursday, 3 Romanian journalists working with a Romanian television channel were expelled from Moldova. Romania has notified the representative of the Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSEC) in charge with mass-media freedom and urged an investigation into the violations of the freedom of expression against Romanian journalists reporting from neighbouring Moldova.
