Loading ...Premier Emil Boc said he was satisfied with the situation at the Nuclear Fuel Plant (FCN) in Mioveni, Pitesti (south), pointing out he was proud that such technology and "elite" professionals exist in Romania.
"I have paid a visit to the Nuclear Fuel Plant, part of Nuclear Electrica Company, because this is an elite unit and as regards Romania's energy security the nuclear fuel plant has an extremely important role, supplying the needed fuel for units 1 and 2 at Cernavoda (the nuclear power plant, south-east, editor's note) and in the period to come for units 3 and 4", said Boc at the end of the visit.
He stressed that nuclear energy accounts for 17 percent of the total production on the energy market in Romania.
"What we saw today is the top product of a technology competent people here know to promote, proving that the energy production future also depends on nuclear energy. Practically, a bundle of 23 kg. produced here is the equivalent of 400 kg. of coal in order to produce the same quantity of thermal energy or electricity", said the Premier.
In his turn, Minister of Economy Adriean Videanu added that the main element the Ministry of Economy is targeting as regards the restructuring of the energy production sector is Romania's energy security.
"Here, the first principle is to value the basic energy resources Romania has at the moment, either water, uranium, coal, crude oil.
Romania must make use of all basic energy resources, so that the energy crisis estimated to affect humankind in the following dozens of years will have lower repercussions upon our country", underlined Videanu. He noted that Mioveni plant is ready to double production, starting 2010-2011, implementing measures to this end.
Asked if the visit to Mioveni was also related to the construction of a new nuclear power plant in this zone, Videanu said the new location will be known in September, but that all conditions are met in this place.
