Romanian Embassy in Rome provides 30 free of charge travel tickets to Romanians in Abruzzo

The Romanian Embassy in Rome provided in the latest three days as many as 30 free of charge tickets for Romanians who remained isolated in the Italian Abruzzo region, after the earthquake that hit the area, with other measures having been taken too to help Romanian citizens found in difficulty, reads a press release from the Embassy on Thursday (April 9).
Moreover, the Embassy offered to transport 38 persons from the affected area in its cars for diplomatic missions. The Embassy also identified a low-cost accommodation facility, where there were transported 13 Romanian citizens.
There were also identified such transportation companies that ensured the transport of Romanian citizens to Rome, with the Embassy obtaining lower prices for them. Also, representatives of the Embassy helped several Romanians with the necessary papers to repatriate to their origin country the dead bodies of their relatives or friends.
At the initiative of the Embassy, 10 persons were helped with money from the emergency fund, with such amounts to be paid back to the consular office in 60 days.
This type of measures is to continue be taken in the next days too, including in the case of the families of the 5 victims of Romanian nationality the Embassy keeps in touch with and which were also helped to obtain free of charge the necessary papers to repatriate the corpses, reads the abovementioned release.
The Romanian Embassy in Rome thanked the central and local Italian authorities for their promptitude and special support offered to all the Romanians affected by the catastrophe, as well as for the support they gave to the team of Romanian diplomats and consuls in the field.
The release also specified that, as following the earthquake that hit the Abruzzo region in the night between April 5 and 6, 2009, a crisis cell is operational to manage the situation, it is made of diplomats, consuls, the office of the attaché for the interior, coordinated by Ambassador Razvan Rusu.
There existed a permanent connection with the Italian authorities responsible with managing the situation in the field and there were offered information to all persons in Romania and Italy who contacted the mission to ask for details about members of their families.
There were also contacted representatives of the Romanian community in Italy and of some religious cults, to coordinate efforts to support Romanians in the area. The Consular Department of the Embassy prolonged its working schedule to better manage the situation. Romanian authorities in Rome also made sure information was sent to authorities back home related to the situation in the regions affected by the earthquake.
On April 7, 2009, a team made up of 3 representatives of the Mission managed to reach to the affected area to offer assistance to Romanians in difficulty. The team from the Embassy paid a visit to the area on April 8 and 9. They have so far visited the camps where there were created shelters for people affected: l'Aquila (Piazza d'Armi, Centi Colella, Stadio Aqua Santa, Onna, Paganica, Bazzano, Arischia, Pizzoli).
There were contacted the coordinators of the camps, identified the Romanian citizens who confronted difficult situations and there was offered information referring to the support granted by the Mission, with the emergency phone number of the Consular department having been distributed widely.
With the support of the coordinators of the camps, the phone number of the Romanian Embassy in Rome was posted on visible spots.
The team also went to the headquarters of the Finance Guard in l'Aquila, where there was arranged a space for corpses to be laid down, to obtain detail about possible Romanian victims, the release of the Embassy also reads.
