13 aprilie 2009

Information in English

European Commissioner  for  Multilingualism Leonard Orban said on Monday, in Iasi (eastern Romania), that the subject referring to the Republic of Moldova would be on the working agenda of the European Commission (EC) this week.
"I am expecting the subject of the elections in the Republic of Moldova to be on the agenda of the Council [of the European Union] too…

The examination will also include the decision of the Republic of Moldova on introducing visas without a 48-hour prior notice," said Leonard Orban. In his opinion there will be very clear positions of the European institutions on the elections in the Republic of Moldova and the situation after them.

"We must not believe that this question will only confine itself to what has been so far," added Orban. He also said that the reaction of the Romanian officials to the crisis in the Republic of Moldova was appreciated all over Europe.

"I can infer from the reactions we got informally that the calmness and balance the Romanian authorities have reacted with so far were appreciated. This does not mean that things cannot evolve. We are to see to what extent they are going to evolve. We must never forget that Romania is a European Union member states, that it has duties to fulfil, but also very many rights," said the European Commissioner.

Leonard Orban on Monday, in Iasi, met the local authorities, chairman of the County Council Constantin Simirad, vice-mayor Romeo Olteanu and prefect Victorel Lupu. On Orban's  schedule  there  is  also a  lecture  on multilingualism to  be  delivered at the Alexandru Ioan Cuza University in Iasi.
