The press office of the Moldovan Foreign Affairs Ministry and European Integration subsequently confirmed the decision to withdraw the accreditation of the TVR1 correspondent, saying nothing more than the motivation was based on Article 18 of the Regulation on the accreditation of journalists.
The TVR 1 correspondent to Chisinau was detained and investigated by the Moldovan police late last week, when he was about to transmit images from Chisinau for the TVR1 news reports in the context of the anti-communist street protests in the Moldovan capital city.
Nevertheless, the Moldovan authorities broke in many times the rights of the Romanian journalists. On Thursday, April 9, a team from the Romanian Realitatea Tv channel was sent to Chisinau, but it was detained by the police, interrogated and expelled in only a few hours. The journalists from the Antena 3 channel and from several Romanian publications shared this treatment.
Reporters Sans Frontiers (RSF), the South-East European Media Organization (SEEMO), the International Federation of Journalists and other international professional organizations repeatedly requested the Moldovan authorities to immediately cease any violent acts against journalists and to stop intimidating them.
