Senate Chairman Geoana: Romania has to change positions in the new international context
15 aprilie 2009
Romania should redefine its position in the new international context on its relations with the Republic of Moldova, Senate Chairman Mircea Geoana told a debate on Tuesday hosted by the Parliament Palace of Bucharest.
In the context of the latest developments in Moldova, there is a relative isolation of Romania within the European Union, Geoana argued, mentioning to the point the reduced reactions of the European chancelleries at the anti-Romanian reactions of the Communist authorities of Moldova.
In the context of the latest developments in Moldova, there is a relative isolation of Romania within the European Union, Geoana argued, mentioning to the point the reduced reactions of the European chancelleries at the anti-Romanian reactions of the Communist authorities of Moldova.
'This relative isolation, as well as the new international context should lead Romania to rethinking its way in which it sees the events there. The only neighbour with which Romania currently has the best relations is the Black Sea, the ‘Russian lake', as some politicians have named it. We have an obligation to Moldova and it is high time we rethought the repositioning toward the latest developments,' said Geoana.
Geoana said that the NATO Summit of 2008 talked about the integration of Georgia and Ukraine with the European Union and NATO, but today's international context indicates that the fight for influence is switching from Romania's eastern borders right to the place where the country is located. 'Romania has an obligation to be more pragmatic in its relationships with its partners, because the risk of disinterest in the region is a real one,' said Geoana.
Geoana mentioned that Romania is facing hardships in its relations with the Republic of Moldova and the Russian Federation.'We must discuss without political politics where we are headed for in our foreign policy,' Geoana added, pointing out that the Eastern part of Europe is currently in full swing of a change where there is an almost violent clash between the regional geopolitical spheres of interests.
Attending the debate were Foreign Minister Cristian Diaconescu, Chairman of the National Council of the Social Democratic Party (PSD) Adrian Nastase, Chairman of the Senate's Committee on Foreign Affairs Titus Corlatean, politicians, political analysts, officials for the civil society and non-governmental organisations.

There were a lot of debates about the latest events that has happened in Moldova….There is a quite guilt for romania, wich sould and deffinetely could be done long time ago:to offer a passports for moldavian citizen, descences of the romanian grand parents and parents….There are stiil evidences when some sons, reletives of the previous governing parties being stopped at the custom checks with the bags full of pasports and some certificates, also national ID card at the number of 500-1000 units,….while hundered of thouthen were and stiil waiting for the respons from the Romanian authorities and their name to be PUBLISHED in the “Monitorul Oficial”…,….
Should be oppened for everybody every city council of Romania, just to take presure and give to those local council the power to receive and proced the aplication for the pasport for Moldovan…
Long time ago the issue could be solved, there evident statements that in stopping into offering the romanian citizenship lyied not only on recent and previous governing structures ,but also on romanian state authorities…
Thanks..
