84.8 pc surge in registration of new Dacia cars in Europe

Dacia car registration in Europe amounted to 14,518 units in March, a surge of 84.8 percent from March 2008 ( 7,855 units) and the share market of the local carmaker  climbed  from 0.5  percent  to  one  percent,  according  to  the  European  Automobile Manufacturers' Association (ACEA), released on Thursday.
 
ACEA statistics reflect developments on the automotive markets in 28 European states – 25 from the European Union (EU) without Cyprus and Malta and three European Free Trade Association (EFTA) states – Iceland, Norway and Switzerland.
 
In the first quarter of 2009 a total of 31,514 Dacia cars were registered in the 28 European states, up 26.5 percent from January-March 2008, when registrations stood at 24,916 units. Overall, Renault Group car sales on the 28 markets amounted to 255,894 units in the first three months of 2009, down 19.3 percent as against the first quarter of the previous year – 317,047 units.
 
New car registration figures in Romania slumped by 64.8 percent in March 2009 (almost three-fold) from the same month last year, to 8,124 units compared to 23,110 units in March 2008, according to ACEA statistics. In Q1 this year, 29,089 new cars were registered on the Romanian market, a slump of 60.7 percent from the same period of last year.
Overall, 3.439 million cars were registered on the 28 European markets, down 17.2 percent from the similar period in 2008.
