Following the presence of the Romanian Minister of Environment Nicolae Nemirschi at the informal meeting of the environment ministers of the EU member states, organized in Prague, over April 14-15 this year, the Romanian authorities agreed with the idea referring to the implementation of the EU legislative package "Energy – climatic changes", convened in December 2008, a document which establishes the legal framework for the Union to fulfill till 2020 its independent pledge of reducing the greenhouse effect gas emissions by 20 percent compared to level in 1990.

Whereas the first session of the meeting in Prague was allocated to debates on the sidelines of the measures of adapting to the climatic changes effects, the second part was dedicated to the examination of the stage of international negotiations in the field of climatic changes, for the adoption of a post 2012 agreement.

In this context, Romania plans to go further, through the elaboration of a National Plan of adaptation to this phenomenon, the ministry underlines in its official document. Nationwide, the authorities already started the preparation and implementation of some concrete actions in the field of adaptation to the climatic changes effects.

The first step in this field was materialized in the "Guide on the adaptation to the climatic changes effects", adopted last year-end.
The agenda of the meeting of the Informal Council on the Environment (ICE) organized in the Czech Republic was also dedicated to the preparation plans of the 15th Conference of the parties in the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), set to take place in Copenhagen, over December 7 – 18 2009.

ICE is  the  main EU  decision body and  has  a  surveillance  role  in the  field of  steady, harmonious and balanced development of economic and social activities, in  line with the valid legislation and standards in the field of environment protection.
