Romania will not stop upholding the idea that the Republic of Moldova must be included in the European Union (EU), irrespective of how the relations between the two countries will develop in the state, said President Traian Basescu on Friday, when attending the official opening of the first Forum of the Local Authorities in Romania and the Republic of Moldova, which is held in Piatra Neamt (eastern Romania).
“Irrespective of the governmental relation, Romania will not stop upholding the idea that the Republic of Moldova must be included in the EU,” said Basescu.
The Head of State also spoke of the speeding up of the citizenship granting process and said it was a serious process, which will not be negotiated with anybody and whose speed will increase with every passing week.
Almost 150 city mayors in Romania and the Republic of Moldova attend the first Forum of the Local Authorities in Piatra Neamt.
The talks focus on the administrative decentralization in the fields of public health, culture and social assistance.
