Geoana argues in favour of upgrading Romanian farming

President of the Social Democrat Party (PSD, a ruling coalition partner) Mircea Geoana during a visit to the eastern Vrancea county on Sunday argued in favour of upgrading the Romanian farming, stressing this is one of the chances to overcome the effects of the economic and financial crisis.

‘If there is any chance for Romania to weather the crisis, then this is a national project that takes the power of more than one government and which targets the modernisation of the Romanian village and turning the agriculture into one of Romania’s most powerful weapons’, Geoana said.

The PSD leader underscored the importance of attracting the European funds and he reminded the mayors of the Vrancea county communities who came to meet him that they have available 10 billion euros, which are funds meant to help the development of the Romanian village.

‘This should pull through the Romanian village in seven years at the most’, he argued.

Geoana on Sunday visited the village of Gologanu, where he sought to see an investment funded by two million euros from the European Union and the Romanian Government, which targets the building of a water cleaning plant, sewerage and covering the village roads with asphalt.
